What Kind of Breast Surgery Do You Need?

A number of different types of breast surgery are available to patients who have a desire to enhance their looks. Each surgery has an individual application, but some types of breast surgery can be combined to reach a particular goal. How do you figure out what you need?

You should examine your goal first. Is the surgery reconstructive or purely aesthetic? Do you want larger breasts or smaller breasts? Do your breasts droop? Do you want them to be less saggy? You should also think about your frame when you figure out what you want, especially concerning the specifics. If you want larger breasts, for example, you need breast augmentation surgery. Can your form support the size you want though? How will it look in proportion with your figure? If your breasts don’t sag now, will they if you add more weight? Will you need a breast lift operation as well to reduce sagging?

In general, breast reconstructive surgery (which can include the other types of breast surgery) is used if you are recovering from cancer or from an injury. Otherwise you’re looking specifically at breast reduction, breast augmentation, or breast lift surgery. Breast reduction is the removal of excess tissue which is causing discomfort or making you unhappy with your appearance. Breast augmentation usually involves implants and is used to increase the fullness of your breasts. Breast augmentation does not reduce drooping—that’s what breast lift surgery is for. Often the latter two are used in conjunction with each other to achieve the best result.

Try to figure out roughly what you think you need and then schedule a surgical consultation. A breast surgeon will be able to assist you in figuring out the specifics so that you get the look you want. Enjoy planning your breast surgery!
